Palimony by Another Name

Anyone read the article in Sunday's edition of the St Petersburg Times about Martina Navratilova being sued by her ex lover? The ex cannot sue for alimony or palimony in the state of Florida, so in her lawsuit she is calling the relationship a business partnership. I wonder how, if at all, this will influence same sex relationship rights? Continue

GLBT people, Islams, and Christians.. Hmm

http://www.pinknews.co.uk/news/articles/2005-14039.html Iran is permitting a woman to marry a trans man. A couple of months ago, I saw this article about two teens that were hung for the "crime" of homosexuality in Iran. http://www.ukgaynews.org.uk/Archive/2005july/2101.htm It's interesting to me that Islamic law finds trans people religiously OK, but applies the death penalty to homosexuality. Iran's attitudes are a contrast to those in the U.S, where I tend to think trans people have a ha… Continue

Arizona pastor’s sermons call for execution of gays, Barney Frank and the President

http://pandagon.net/index.php/site/comments/arizona_pastors_sermons_call_for_execution_of_gays_barney_frank_and_the_pre/ Outrageous hatred and bigotry in the name of the Bible is alive and well. Move over Fred Phelps. In the interest of knowing the enemy, I watched a little of the video of this nut's rant "The Truth About the Sodomites", and clicked "listen to here" and heard part of his sermon on "Why I Hate Barack Obama" (I didn't get to the part where he called for Obama's execution, but… Continue

Ted Olson, David Boise, and the Road to Equality.

When I first read that Ted Olson and David Boies were teaming up in a Federal lawsuit taking on Proposition 8, it sounded like happy if unexpected news. Then, I read about two of my favorite champions for GLBT rights - the NCLR & ACLU - having the opinion that this was NOT happy news. The time isn't right yet. If the lawsuit is lost, it will set equality back. Recently, I've read that the big GLBT rights groups wanted to join Ted Olson & David Boies in the lawsuit. Understandable since… Continue

Library asked to stock 'ex-gay' literature

http://www.pinknews.co.uk/news/articles/2005-13617.html A group called the Christian Civil Liberties Union is accusing a library in Wisconsin of not permitting diversity because it does not include anti-gay literature. Here, the conecpt of Civil Liberty is twisted around to include the freedom to promote hatred against a minority, and diversity to include "ideals" of exclusivnesss. Go figure, but narrow minds can squeeze into narror places. Continue

Kiss-In at Mormon-owned Main Street Plaza

A little lesson in tolerance for the LDS church. I love it! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ZXwrVSgN_k&eurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pinknews.co.uk%2Fnews%2Farticles%2F2005-13243.html&feature=player_embedded Continue

Maine gay marriage opponents collect enough signatures to get issue on November ballot

http://www.pinknews.co.uk/news/articles/2005-13175.html Gads… not again, not another “proposition 8” style of maneuver... :( The Maine bigots hired the same publicity firm the California bigots employed to fight marriage equality, and look what they’ve up and done. I guess bigot activists have nailed down a strategy that is working, at least until a few more people open their minds. Well, on the bright side, we have made wide strides in equality in just a few years. Once you’ve gotten a taste… Continue

Powell: Time to review ‘don't ask, don't tell’

To Admiral Michael Mullen's comments in this article: So, why the hint of caution about repealing DADT over an IMAGINED impact on the military and their families? What about the REAL impact DADT has now on the military and their families when lesbians and gays are fired for being who they are? To Defense Secretary Robert Gate's comment: What do you mean by looking for a way to apply DADT more selectively while it’s still law in order to be more humane? Just how do you propose to do that? Are… Continue

Gay rights activist calls for march on Washington

Thought I’d pass this on, it looks like a wonderful opportunity for some good old fashioned marching and protesting for a great cause. http://www.seattlepi.com/national/1110ap_us_gay_rights_march.html Continue

Gay Rights Groups to Ted Olson: Thanks, but No Thanks

http://www.motherjones.com/politics/2009/05/gay-rights-groups-ted-olson-thanks-no-thanks This is pretty interesting. A very conservative former champion of Bush is teaming up with another lawyer to argue against proposition 8 to the U.S. Supreme Court. The ACLU and gay rights groups don’t like the idea because they think he will lose and set equality back. There are suspicions that that is the underlying motive. I don’t know if the time isn’t right yet or if this is a conspiracy. It is entirel… Continue

If I'm going to eat my babies, could I have some salt?

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/04/24/AR2009042403461.html When Fred Phelps and his little entourage of nuts showed up to protest at Walt Whitman High School, he was shouted down by a mass of students. That comment by the student at the end of this article is downright funny: “that sign ‘you will eat your babies’, that doesn’t even mean anything” What a hoot! I’d like to extend an open thanks to Fred Phelps, and wish him luck. I believe the outcome of your antics are… Continue

Huckabee: Gays haven’t suffered enough to call for equal rights

Huckabee: Gays haven’t suffered enough to call for equal rights Category: News and Politics http://pageoneq.com/news/2008/huckabee1119.html Every now and then, even though it can almost short circuit the sane section of wiring in my head at times, I'll glance over an opinion like ole' Mike Huckabee's. I guess I'm trying to understand where bigotry comes from. Mike Huckabee said on the View that he was proud the country saw past race when Obama was elected. But, at the same time he thinks it… Continue
